Опис книги Bioorganic Chemistry
Bioorganic Chemistry is the science and academic discipline which subjects of study are structure and chemical properties of carbon containing compounds com-monly known as biomolecules that constitute the molecular architecture of living or-ganisms including viruses, bacteria, plants, animals and humans. In addition to organic molecules produced by a living organism, the subject of bioorganic chemistry involves also the scientific study of organic substances which are applied as pharmaceutical preparations in the treatment of human diseases, especially the compounds that are analogues of vitamins, amino acids, nucleotides and other metabolites.
According to the present-day academic curriculum approved by the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine for medical universities of the IV,h accreditation level, the academic discipline "Biological and Bioorganic Chemistry" is provided for the 1« and 2nd years students of the specialities "Medicine" 7.110101, "Pediatrics" 7.110104, and "Profilactic Medicine" 7.110105. The design of the manual presented and its conceptual foundations are made up according to the global trends in high medical education, especially to the demands and standards of the Bologna process, adopted by Ukraine in 1999 and directed to the harmonization with the European educational system architecture.
In view of the aforesaid, Bioorganic Chemistry is the fundamental basis which underlies such biomedical sciences and educational disciplines as Biological Chemistry (Biochemistry), Pharmacology, Clinical Chemistry and includes the information useful for the learning of pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy by pharmacy students. The study course presented in the manual consists of text material and plentiful illustrations, including chemical formulae, chemical reactions equations, drawings and charts depicting certain complicated chemical transformations of biomolecules.
This is the academic course of Bioorganic Chemistry worked out on the basis of abundant educational experience of the scholastic staff of the Bioorganic, Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department of the National O. Bogomolets Medical University (Kyiv). The author is profoundly indebted to his colleagues for their valuable comments and benevolent criticisms during the preparation of the course and textbook properly, and would gratefully accept any further remarks and suggestions from bioorganic and biological chemistry teachers and students.
