Bioethics is a new synthetic branch of knowledge, a philosophical branch of medicine which studies the ethical controversies brought about by advances in biology and medicine. The ethical evaluation of all kinds of professional activity is necessary for every doctor regardless of the specialty.
This study guide has been designed in order to improve the students’ self-training in Bioethics in an effort to implement the Bolonga System of education. It has been written according to Bioethics Syllabus for higher educational medical institutions approved by the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine.
The purpose of the study guide is to help the students of higher medical educational establishments to study the basic principles of Bioethics and their use for ethical evaluation of problems concerning human rights, health and healthy lifestyle, environment, human reproduction, modem genetic technologies, end of life care, organ donation and transplantation, psychiatric and infectious diseases, biomedical researches, drugs adverse reactions, and substance abuse. In every case we have tried to show the different points of view and resolving of ethical dilemmas surrounding biomedical problems. We have cited many international documents connected with Bioethics, which reflect the cross-cultural processes in modem society and growing understanding of moral values applied to health care and biomedical science.
The study guide contains illustrations which are directed on attraction of students’ attention to the basis of Bioethics. To illustrate this book we have used illustrations mainly from Internet search systems. Tests at the end of the chapters are intended for the control of knowledge obtained from the text during self-education.
